Grand Makadi

Weil ich belgischen bin, ist meine Einschätzung in Englisch geschrieben, The Grand Makadi Experience. I visited the Grand Makadi with my wife and two kids (15 & 18y) and with a niece and her 2 sons (14 & 17Y) between April 7 and April 14. Besides pure holiday I had another reason for visiting the Grand Makadi. Next year my father wants to invite the whole family for an anniversary trip, and he has asked me and my brother to propose a suitable hotel. (My brother goes to Gran Canaria) We are a Belgian family and because this week the Belgian schools have Eastern holiday this time of the year is already high season for the Belgian tour operators. Therefore we booked in Germany where the prices are still on low season based. After making a preselection based on the desiderata for the group I finally opted for the Grand Makadi. This hotel makes part of the Red Sea Hotels group and is situated in Makadi Bay. The hotel makes part of 4 sister-hotels that are connected by a beautiful promenade. The four hotels are: The Grand Makadi , Makadi Palace, Makadi Spa and Makadi Sun Wing. Each of this 4 hotels have their own characteristics. The Grand Makadi: is the oldest of the 4 hotels …. wonderful gardens, new and very comfortable sun beds spread around the premises which creates a unique “open’ feeling. The infrastructure is lightly worn, but the renovation program is running full speed. Makadi Palace; younger, bigger in size and capacity but much more “enclosed”. After walking around on the site I Immediately felt that I had chosen the better of these two connected hotels. (Prices are +/_ equal.) Palace gave me a crowdy impression. Makadi Spa: luxurious, officially it is a 16+ hotel, but this seems to depend on the tour operator. (Sometimes 14 year old kids are also allowed!) Price is +/_ 25% higher. Sunwing Waterworld: hotel has its own spectacular aqua park … which makes it a noisy experience. But …. If you have young children that are fans of an aqua park, this is an excellent choice. This hotel also gave me an enclosed impression. Review on the Grand Makadi • Reception: although we arrived at 01.00 h we received a warm personalized welcome that made us feel as if we had been there before. • Rooms: we had junior suites: spacious and very clean! Although we have passed several holidays in Egypt, this was undoubtedly the most spacious room we have ever stayed in. …. At this price … a perfect deal • Housekeeping: very efficient, friendly and helpful. • F&B: Besides the main restaurant we tried all 3 à la carte restaurants: Italian, Caribbean and Lebanese. All the restaurants have a typical interior which create the feeling that your at a completely different location. Variety is well balanced and quality is very good. The variety of snacks at the different locations that you can visit between 12.00 and 16.00 h is more than sufficient. The main restaurant is well situated and the offer is well chosen. • House reef is fabulous!!!! … Even better then the one we saw during the snorkling tour we did by boat! (Sometimes it happens that snorkeling trips stop at the reef because it is so beautiful) It spreads along the 4 hotels, but the main pier is situated at the Grand Makadi. … a huge advantage. • The 4 hotels work together with the Aquarius Diving Center. The staff is 100% correct and professional. (I was refused a diving course because of a back operation I passed last year and I couldn’t present and approval to dive signed by my physician. … due to their policy they missed about 250€ … but they handled 100% correct!! Not all diving schools in Egypt are this correct and reliable!). • Red Sea Activities: Our teenagers went parasailing and banana-boat riding at the Aquarius Diving Center and all these events where offered at a correct price and passed in a very save way. • Evening program: At this time of the year there is no great animation team. But at the (beautiful) terrace of the hotel there live performances every evening until +/- 22.30h. • All Inclusive policy: The policy that alcohol is served to guest above 18years old (except if they are accompanied by parents or if parents provide a written approval) and all alcoholic drinks after 24.00h need to be paid for definitely helps to avoid all kinds of trouble caused by alcohol. All drinks at the pool are served in throw away plastic cups which is much better then being served in the washable plastic cups that are often used in other hotels (these turn pale are not nice to drink out). Service at the pool is very good and friendly. We were well served by mister Atef. • Negative: of course there are always small items that could be improved, but these vanish if you make an overall analysis. Conclusion: we spend a wonderful time, hotel offers perfect price / quality rate. We will recommend this hotel to everybody who looks for a relaxing holiday and isn’t looking for a crowdy hotel full of youth that is looking for a “wild” holiday full of nightlife! I will definitely do my utmost to convince my father top end his family reunion at the Grand Makadi Ps. whenever there is a review with any point a criticism, it is the General Manager, Mister Tamer El Dieb thimself, who responds personally! This, together with the fact that Mister El Dieb is constantly among his personnel is the best proof that this hotel is constantly trying to improve the already excellent service they are offering. Also the responsible for guest relations approaches the guests to check whether everything is satisfactory … and if not, she immediately takes notice and reacts to solve the problem or improve the situation.
